Bad St. Isidor (Bath Saint Isidore) first got famous because of the water, rich in minerals like alkali, iron, and lime from the quartz porphyry, which help against articular pain, rashes, and digestive problems. Already in 1734, St. Isidor was mentioned for the first time by a doctor as a good place to spend the warm months and take advantage of the healing water. The place got its name from Saint Isidore, to whom a shrine was dedicated here. Later, in 1886, a small chapel was built and dedicated to this saint as well. Today, here are still celebrated weddings and other religious events. During its founding period, mostly the rural population visited the bath. A little later, the population of Bozen realized that this place above the city was perfect to escape the heat in the valley during summer. Especially those who had no summer residence at the Ritten high plateau, came to Bad St. Isidor. Here, 15 bath cabins and 40 beds were available to the visitors. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the bath was closed in 1920, but the hotel remained open. The healing water is still flowing in the pipes and can be filled into bottles. Therefore, our guests can still enjoy the benefits of the water!

The easy way up
Well connected with the oldest cable car in the world
The village of Kohlern became a popular place to escape the summer heat already more than 100 years ago, as it is not far away from the city, surrounded by nature, and at an altitude, where the temperatures stay pleasant when it gets hot in the valley. To create a connection between the two small towns on the hill and the provincial capital, the cable car was inaugurated already in 1908. Therefore, the cable car, which overcomes an altitude difference of about 835m on its way from Bozen to Kohlern, is the oldest in the world. Normally, the cabins run every half hour and can transport up to 20 people. Paying a small sum, it is also possible to bring a bike. With the Bozen Card, you can use the cable car for free, which allows you to go from peaceful Kohlern to Bozen, and from there everywhere in South Tyrol.
